THE ASK
Create an unforgettable mobile gaming experience for GEICO that communicates savings.
GEICO was one of a handful of companies that created an iAd with Apple - a short, mobile gaming experience for the iPad and iPhone. We wanted to craft a memorable and humorous user experience that communicated GEICO’s money-saving powers in a whimsical way. We came up with Money Badger Strikes, a stop-motion animation iAd gaming experience that goes through three scenarios in which the badger tries to steal the player’s money.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
We developed the money badger character after doing sketch explorations. Various facial expressions were made with Sculpey clay and hand painted. We built a movable armature wire and wood maquette for body of the Money Badger.
THE COIN STEAL GAME
In the first game we developed, the badger sneaks through a window and pops out of drawers to steal money. The user must tap the badger to stop him. We developed a color palette and visual language for the wonky world of the Money Badger, built all of the props, and created mobile sets for ease and mobility.
THE SAFE CAPER GAME
In this game, the user must pop the balloons strapped to the badger before he floats to a safe full of money. From popped balloon shards to a painting of the GEICO gecko, we crafted every single item in the set.
THE WALLET GRAB GAME
In this game, the badger swings from the ceiling attached by a rope in an attempt to grab a wallet. The user must swipe the rope to sever it.
